Solar-Log™ PM+

Feed-in management with Solar-Log™ PM+
Fundamentally, the requirements of the grid have changed. This is caused by the strong growth of photovoltaic plants. The grid operators in some countries, such as Germany, may demand a temporary reduction of the feed-in when the grid is overloaded. They also may demand the provision of reactive power. These requirements of feed-in management differ based on kWp plant size as well as when the plant was installed.
The hardware and software solutions provided by Solar-Log™ cover the entire range of requirements of feed-in management, as well as comfortable and familiar monitoring tools. Whether you want to install a 4 kWp or 120 kWp plant, Solar-Log™ has a solution for you. You can use the Solar-Log™ PM+ to receive the remote signal from the grid operator via a ripple control receiver. This allows the grid operator to have complex control of the inverters. If you are required to control the provision of reactive power only through basic settings, a free fi rmware update is available and no extra hardware is necessary.

Solar-Log™ Utility Meter

The combination of the Solar-Log1000 PM+ and the Solar-Log™ Utility Meter makes it possible to regulate the feed-in reactive power according to the voltage prevailing on the medium voltage level. The Utility Meter which takes measurements via voltage converters in the medium voltage network, relays the measured values to the Solar-Log1000 PM+ via an RS485 Bus. Based on the voltage measured at the time the Solar-Log1000 PM+ uses stored characteristic curves to calculate the required reactive power. Based on this, the connected inverters are controlled accordingly.

Solar-Log™ Easy Installation

Starting immediately, configuration of Solar-Log™ is quite simple
Solar-Log™ is quick and easy to install and commission with "Easy Installation". This new firmware has been available since the end of April 2011. Thanks to the simplified and automatic procedures the on-site installer does not require PC or installation expertise. When the Solar-Log™ is switched on for the first time the device goes immediately into "Easy Installation" mode which is the starting point for ensuring automatic provisioning.
“Easy Installation” is mainly intended for smaller and mediumsized residential power plants of up to 5 inverters.
Automatic inverter search
The Solar-Log™ automatically starts the search for the most common inverter manufacturers and connected inverters. When the search is complete, LED-1 stays on permanently.
On the Solar-Log200, the inverter search and the internet registration are enabled immediately. On the Solar-Log500 / 1000 Easy Installation mode is booted manually after the language, country setting and where applicable, the date and time has been programmed.

Sensor Box

Sensors including irradiance sensor and integrated module temperature sensor
The sensors record variances between the possible and the actual power production levels and deliver key indicators relating to the quality of the system as a whole. The Solar-Log™ continuously compares the yield data from the solar power plant with the measurement results from the various sensors. If a variance exists, the Solar-Log™ generates an error message.
Sensor Box
The most important element in the Sensor Box is the irradiance sensor. This delivers a reference value for solar radiation (“solarization”) and enables conclusions to be drawn about possible power generation. Even at low levels of solarization, power dips can be identified reliably and error messages can be generated. Due to the installed internal module temperature sensor, a power 'dip. is easier to analyse.
Communication benefits between the Solar-Log™ and the Sensor Box:
- Solar-Log™ generates an error message in response to any variance that occurs.
- Errors and malfunctions can be filtered out and analysed rapidly and reliably.
- The sensor evaluation provides information about the cause of the fault.
- Up to 9 Sensor Boxes can be connected to the Solar-Log1000.

Digital Meter

Various uses are made of an additional electricity meter on solar power systems. One can be used to transmit the measurement of current to the Solar-Log™. If you wish to consume self-produced power from a solar power system, the meter (functioning as a power consumption meter) measures the electricity used, and compares this figure against the electricity generated.
Connection to the Solar-Log200 / 500 / 1000
The connection of the Solar-Log™ to a digital meter involves the
use of an S0 input Solar-Log200 / 500 / 1000.

Installation housing

The installation housing, made of polycarbonate and ABS plastic allows the Solar-Logs to be installed in outside areas. The housing meets the requirements of protection class IP65 and reliably protects the data logger from dust and humidity. The transparent lid makes it easy to read the LED signals from the Solar-Log™.
In addition to space for the Solar-Log™ the installation housing for the outside area also offers sufficient space to house additional accessories such as a PowerLine adapter. It is supplied with 3 continuous metres of cable for connection to the mains and as well as a mounting plate to facilitate the drilling of holes. The housing is able to be easily installed by laypersons.

Solar-Log™ overvoltage protection

The overvoltage protection device for the Solar-Log™ offers appliance protection against electrical voltage that is too high, which can lead to overvoltage damage. This damage can be caused by various factors. For example, if lightning strikes in the vicinity and creates a voltage spike, or when removing inverter communication cables from the logger while the inverter is
operating.
Greater security, Solar-Log™ now with overvoltage protection
This appliance protection device has been specially developed for the RS485/422 interface of the Solar-Log™. For Solar-Log1000, the RS485/422 and RS485 interfaces can be protected simultaneously with the overvoltage module.
