Description of the customer
Las Salinas is a grand sea resort situated in Enfeh, on the Northern coast of Lebanon. Sitting on a 100,000 sqm landscaped plot overlooking the sea, it is the perfect gateway for leisure travelers, family vacationers and water sports lovers.

Plant details
ECOsys, part of ITG (Holding) implement a solar photovoltaic system over two of its complexes: Las 1 (rooftop installation) and Las 5 (solar carport system and solar sports court). The project is fully executed, providing a total capacity of 266 kWp for the resort.

The project is financed by the "National Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Action" (NEEREA) through BLF bank. NEEREA is a national financing mechanism initiated by the Central Bank of Lebanon and dedicated to the financing of green energy projects in Lebanon.

Particular challenge
The project's main challenge was to esthetically design and integrate a PV system within the existing structure. It was also a big challenge that the installation took place on two different buildings. One of the places was over 5 m high roof over the tennis court.

Special requirements
The grid tends to be unstable sometimes. This is why diesel generator was used to supply energy during the grid downtimes. The PV management system in this project needed to cooperate with it to prevent the flow energy back to the diesel generator.

How was this requirement met?
Power managements system was built based on Solar-Log™ and their own PLC solution. During the grid’s failure, Solar-Log™ prevents the excess energy from being sent to diesel generator that could cause a failure otherwise.

The implementation procedure was performed by a group of 20 specialists consisting of engineers and technicians. The system was fully implemented in January 2017, with an estimated payback period of 6 years.

“Las Salinas is proud to embrace the solar energy trend and help reduce the pollution in our country. This project is very important to our environment and nature.  The beautiful design and accurate execution of ECOsys, along with the financial support of NEEREA & BDL, helped us achieve our environmental contribution. ECOsys’ continuous follow up and effort to solve the technical and esthetic challenges that we faced, was crucial to finalize the project within the assigned deadline. We hope that other resorts and institutions take into consideration the obligation of investing in solar systems that will guide us towards a better sustainable country. We also hope that our government would provide further needed support in this field, by installing net meters throughout Lebanese regions” - Mr. Joseph Chikhani, Chairman of Las Salinas Resort
